Rethinking MMOG Localization

Lecturer: David Lakritz, Language Automation, Inc.

Developing, deploying, operating and maintaining an MMOG is a very challenging undertaking. Asset management, in particular, can be especially daunting. Compared to traditional console-based games, MMOG assets are typically bulkier, more dynamic, require faster deployment, need to be localized into more languages and will often include user-generated content. Attempting to use a traditional console-based game localization process on this class of assets can quickly lead to disaster. A new approach is needed that is better suited to the dynamic nature of the MMOG. In this talk we will discuss these issues and offer ideas for best-practice solutions.

Intended Audience: Developers, publishers or producers currently involved in MMOG localization, or those with future plans to enter the space.

Prerequisites: Attendees should have some knowledge or experience with game localization.
